The Boulder Stroke & Stride enters it's 8th season in 2009, and offers Boulder area athletes a fun 1-lap 750 Meter Swim, or 2-Lap 1500 Meter swim in Boulder Reservoir, followed by a 5k run on the reservoir dam on 10 Thursday evenings throughout the summer. Many participants make their open-water swimming debut in the beginner-friendly Stroke & Stride 750 meter event, while more seasoned athletes get the thrill of starting alongside some of the top athletes in the world in the 1,500 meter swim. 200-300 participants enjoy the Stroke & Stride every week! |

Entry InformationThe Boulder Stroke & Stride is open to individuals and two-person relay teams. Pre-Registration is offered by mail, or online with your credit card through Active.com. Online registration closes at 10:00 a.m. on the Wednesday before each event. Race-Day Registration is also available, provided our maximum has not been reached. Race Day Registration opens at 4:30 p.m. We accept cash or check only on race night. Discounted "Six-Pack" entries are also available. A six-pack guarantees you a spot on the starting line at any 6 races you choose during the 2009 season. Six Pack entries cannot be shared between athletes (we do check photo ID at chip pick-up). Once accepted, entry fees will not be refunded for any reason. Entries cannot be transferred between athletes, or between Stroke & Stride events. A single-event entry is good only for the night it was purchased. In the case an event is cancelled due to weather, then a credit will be issued which may be used at any future Stroke & Stride event in the 2009 season. Credits may not be carried beyond the final event in 2009. In the event one or more events are cancelled due to weather, we have arranged a rain-date on Thursday August 13th. RACE CANCELLATION INFORMATION: We do not make any decisions to cancel races due to weather until after 3:30pm on the evening of the event. If weather is questionable, you can call our update line at 303-642-7917 after 3:30pm on race night. You cannot leave a message at this number, and the recording will only be updated if we have decided to cancel. Beginners: How It WorksThe Boulder Stroke & Stride is a Swim/Run event, also known as Aquathlon. The race begins with an open water swim of 750 or 1,500 meters. There will be a mass start for each distance, with 1,500 meter swimmers starting at 6:00pm, and the 750 meter swimmers starting 5 minutes later. The swim course is a rectangular shape, with participants swimming in a clockwise direction around a series of large orange buoys. One lap of the swim course is 750 meters. 750 Meter swimmers swim one-lap of the course, then exit the water and run 50 meters to transition. 1,500 meter swimmers also exit the water following their first lap, then run 100 meters along the beach, and start lap-2 at the same point where they started lap-1. Upon completion of the second lap, 1,500 meter swimmers will run to transition. The transition area ia a large grassy area were you will lay your towel. This claims your transition spot. You will place your running shoes and other gear on your towel. Upon completion of your swim, you will run to your towel, pull on your running shoes, your bib number, and any other gear you'd like for the run. You will leave your wetsuit, goggles, and swim cap at your towel. Once you are ready, you will exit the transtion area, and start the run being careful to exit at the correct location and cross the timing mat to record your run start time. The run course is an out and back course on a mix of paved and dirt roadways. The first and last half-mile of the run is open to light park traffic. You will run on the right side of the road in both directions. All miles are marked, and there is a water-stop at the turn-around. The run course has one small uphill on the way out, and one small downhill on the way back. The rest of the course is flat. Following the run, we'll collect your timing chip, and if you are one of the lucky finishers who was chosen for a raffle prize, you will receive some merchandise or a gift certificate from one of our generous sponsors! Food, drink, and music follow the event. Wetsuits???Wetsuits are not required, however most participants will wear them for warmth and for buoyancy. The water temp in the Boulder Reservoir will be in the low-to-mid 60's in early June. It will rise to around 70 degrees by July 1st, and will hover in the mid-to-upper 70's in early August, depending on the summer weather. Wetsuits can be rented at the following locations: HydraPour on CourseOur aid station at each Stroke and Stride will include a HydraPour high-speed, self-serve water dispenser. Using this dispenser, you can refill your HydraPouch (or any water bottle, including hydration belt flasks) at a rate of six ounces per second. HydraPour dispensers will also be available in the start/finish area and at the HydraPouch expo booth. Check out the videos at www.hydrapouch.com to see how fast and easy it is to refill from a HydraPour dispenser. Of course, we will also have the traditional cups at our aid station as well, but if you would like to help reduce paper cup waste, and improve your hydration experience at the same time, you can do so with the revolutionary new HydraPouch. You will get your water or sports drink in your mouth, not all over yourself, and you can carry your drink with you and sip it as long as you like. It's available at local running and multisport specialty stores, and can be purchased at a 15% discount from www.hydrapouch.com (by entering coupon code "strokeandstride2009" during checkout) or at their booth - they'll be at every race in the Stroke and Stride series. Directions & Park EntryAll events start and finish at Boulder Reservoir Pavilion. The Boulder Reservoir is located on 51st Street in Boulder. 51st Street is located just west of the intersection of the Diagonal Highway and Jay Road. Turn North on 51st and drive approximately 1 mile. The Reservoir entrance will be on your right. Participants will be admitted to the reservoir free of charge. Spectators must pay the entrance fee to gain entry into the Boulder Reservoir. Please be sure spectators pay the entrance fee so we do not lose the right for participants to be admitted for free. NEW STROKE & STRIDE GATE POLICY FOR 2009: Great News!!! Participants in the Boulder Stroke & Stride will no longer be charged an entrance fee at the gate. We have also moved to a new provider for online registration, which means no more processing fees for registering online! Spectators will still need to pay the standard reservoir gate fee. Spectators NEED to pay the required fees, as they will be counting at the gate, and we may be forced to take payments at the gate again in the future if this is abused. Awards, Raffle, Shirts & "Six Packs"Awards will not be given following individual races, however light refreshments, music, and a fun raffle will follow each event. Boulder Stroke & Stride T-Shirts will be included with all "Six Pack" entries. Additional Shirts can be purchased for $12. "Six-Pack" entries allow you to do any 6 races you choose and get a nice discount, too - entries are not transferrable.
