The West Side Duathlon is the final race in the 2010 Mile High Duathlon Series. All abilities are welcome! Enter one race, or du all three! |
The CourseThe Race will be contested in the traditional run-bike-run format, with two distance options to choose from: the standard 5K run, 30K bike, 5K run distance, and the shorter 2K run, 15K bike, 5K run option. Junior racers age 12 & up are encouraged to compete in the shorter distance event. This is also a great distance for beginner multisport participants. RUN COURSE: The 5K run course is fairly flat, on a mix of road, paved bike path, and dirt trail. The standard distance du follows an identical 5K loop for both runs, with the exception of the opening half-mile. Run-1 starts in the park, just a short walk east of the stadium on 64th, and follows park roads for approximately 1/2 mile to allow runners to spread out before the course narrows. Run-2 exits transition and runs along the bike path that parallels 64th. The final 2.5 miles of both courses are identical, utilizing neighborhood streets, paved bike path, and dirt trails. The short course substitutes a 2K opening run, using the same starting line at the opening 5K run. The 2K run proceeds south on the dirt road that parallels the canal shown on the 5K map. At 1K, short course runners merge with the 5K route, and take the dirt trail back to transition. BIKE COURSE: COURSE MAP The bike course is a fun course, with a few rolling hills and nice scenery at the base of the foothills. From transition, you will proceed north on Hwy 93 for 2 miles in a designated lane that is separated from traffic. There is a nice climb early on 93 to get things going. From here, it's downhill to Leyden Road where you will pedal a fast 3 miles of gradual downhill riding. Quaker road has two short uphill sections, with a nice descent to separate them. From there, it's a nice descent on 72nd and Virgil Road. Finally, there is a very gradual 1 mile rise in a designated lane on 64th that is closed to traffic to complete the loop. Short course participants will complete 1 lap (15K), while standard course participants will complete 2 laps. |
