The Barkin' Dog Duathlon
This is the 10th year for the Barkin' Dog Duathlon, Colorado's largest duathlon, and consistently the larest duathlon in the Western United States. The race spent it's first seven years in the small town of Keenesburg, just north and east of Denver, but we outgrew that location and made the move to Cherry Creek State Park in 2006.
This race serves as the unofficial season opener for Colorado multisport athletes, attracting some of the top pro's in the country as well as a whole slew of first-time multisport athletes trying something different. If you can finish a 10K, you can complete a duathlon!
We hope you'll join us on May 10th for a quality race, a fun post-race picnic, terrific gear drawing, and the start to the 9th year for the Mile-High Duathlon Series!
The Mile-High Duathlon Series is the best value in multi-sport!!! You can enter one race, or all three - the choice is yours! Chip Timing at All Series Events
AMB timing systems are the only chip timing systems to have been used at the Olympic Games, including the 2004 Olympic Marathon and Triathlon. They have been used at the UCI World Cycling Championships since 1993, and in recent years to time all stages of the Tour de France and the 2007 ITU Triathlon World Championships.
AMB is continually improving upon their transponder technology, and we are fortunate to be one of a select number of organizations worldwide who have received the all new AMB ChipX system - their most advanced timing system to date!
All race participants will receive a small transponder (chip) on race morning which will allow us to track your times throughout the race. Transponders are worn on the ankle using a lightweight, comfortable, and soft neoprene strap.
Only AMB ChipX transponders will work with this system. Champion Chip and Winning Time chips will not register, as the AMB system uses a different technology. All participants will receive their AMB chip on race morning, and transponders must be returned following the event.

Choose Your Division
Age Group: Solo Athletes will compete against other solo athletes in their specific age/gender group, unless they choose to enter one of the special categories listed below. Male and female age groups for the Mile-High Duathlon Series are broken down as follows: Age 12 & Under, Age 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89. Awards are presented to the top-3 finishers in each of these age groups at each of the three series races. A series award will be presented to the top overall series point winner in each of these age groups.
Elite: Athletes desiring to compete for the prize money awarded to top finishers must register as Elite. A PRO LICENSE IS NOT REQUIRED to enter the elite wave, however competitors in the Elite wave will not be eligible for age group awards. Also, if a competitor races any one of the series races as an Elite, they will not be eligible for age group series points - even if they race the remaining two series events as an age-group competitor. An Elite competitor may, however, choose to race in his/her age-group at any time during the series and still receive an age group award at that specific event.
Clydesdale & Athena: Male Athletes Weighing 200 pounds or more may choose to compete in the Clydesdale division. Individual race awards and series points are awarded to Clydesdales age 39 & under, and age 40 & over. Women weighing 150 pounds or more may choose to enter the Athena division. All Athena competitors will earn awards and series points in a single Athena division. Clydesdales and Athenas will not be eligible for awards or series points in their age groups. Awards are presented to the top-3 finishers in each of these categories at each of the three series races. A series award will be presented to the top overall series point winner in each of these categories.
FAT TIRE (mountain bike) DIVISION: Many newcomers to multisport as well as a dozen or so of our regular participants, choose to compete on their mountain bikes. In fact, we often see nearly 10 percent of our participants on their mountain bikes at each of the three races in the series. Athletes who race on a mountain bike or hybrid with a minimum tire width of 1.9 can choose to compete in the Fat Tire Division in place of their standard age group. Yes, you will still ride on the same paved route as the road bikers, but this division will even the playing field. Awards are presented to the top-3 male and female finishers in this category at each of the three series races. A series award will be presented to the top overall male and female series point winner.
Relay Teams: Relay teams, composed of 1 runner and one cyclist may participate in one of three categories - Male, Female, or Coed. Single Sport Athletes -- Let's See What You've Got. Pair up with your favorite runner or cyclist and compete! Individual race awards and series points are awarded in all three divisions, and Coed relay teams will compete for a share of the $500 cash purse!!! Series point winners in the Coed Relay Division will take home $250 for first, $150 for second, and $100 for third in the series. All relay team awards go three-deep at each event in each category, and to the first place series point winners in the Male and Female divisions.
