February 16th Race UpdateCOURSE UPDATE: Posted 02/14/08 - Well, Cherry Creek State Park received about 2 inches of fresh snow this morning, but the good news is Friday is supposed to be sunny and 40 degrees, so the roads should melt off in time for Saturday's race! More on the course in a minute. First, please be aware of the New Packet Pick-Up Procedure: You must show a Photo Id when you pick up your bib number. We have discovered a number of unregistered participants racing under another athlete's name. This creates a huge liability issue. USAT instituted the photo ID rule several years ago when a person who was racing under another athlete's name was hit by a car. You must now pick up your race number in person and present a photo ID in order to receive your bib number and timing chip. One additional note. Parking will be allowed in the lot adjacent to the transition area until it fills. Once the lot has filled, cones will be placed across the entry way. Please, do not drive through the cones. The lot really is full. I have been told that any cars parked on the grass will be towed by the park. There is plenty of parking available just 200 yards away at the Marina. OK, back to the race! The bike course is now covered in a light layer of snow. This should melt off by the start of the race, but please be ready for anything. Saturday's race starts with a 10.8 mile bike ride. The start procedure will be as follows: groups of 10 or less riders will start at 1-minute intervals. Starting Waves will be seeded randomly (varying abilities in each group) to avoid packs forming on the bike. The bike course will be identical to race #1 (the December race). Remember - no drafting! Please leave at least 3 bike lengths between your front wheel and the rear wheel of the bike ahead of you. If you would like to pass, please do so quickly. The run course should be almost snow-free on race morning. Again - should. It will be a 4-mile counter-clockwise loop on a mix of bike path, dirt trail, and road. I expect that neither the run or bike course will need to be altered this month!!! We will be calculating final series point standings at the race, so please stick around and pick up your award if you think you may have won. A link to the current point standings is posted with the 2008 results and registration links. The weather forecast looks great!!! We'll see you on Saturday. ![]() A nice dry bike route The SeriesThe Chilly Cheeks Duathlon Series is composed of 3 events - each with a different format.
